Summer Intensive: July 25 - August 6

Take your technique and artistry to the next level at NMBC’s Summer Intensive featuring four amazing guests from around the country: Tyler Angle, Davonna Batt, Constanza Murphy, and Sarah Schafer. One-week and two-week options are available July 25 – August 6, 2022, for intermediate and advanced dancers aged 11 and up.

 

What’s new this year?

  • FOUR amazing guest instructors from around the countryNMBC is thrilled to welcome back guest instructors Tyler Angle, Sarah Schafer, and Davonna Batt. We’re also excited to introduce Constanza Murphy, a new addition to NMBC and the Albuquerque dance community!
  • TWO levelsfor individual attention and progressDancers will be placed in two levels based on technical ability, pointe experience, and age. Dancers at an intermediate level but not yet en pointe are welcome.
  • VARIETY of daily classes including classical ballet technique, pointe, variations, contemporary, lyrical, jazz, improvisation, conditioning for dancers, and more.
  • ONE–week or TWO–week options

Guest Artist Bios

Tyler Angle: Tyler Angle was born in Altoona, Pennsylvania, and began his dance training at the age of nine with Deborah Anthony at the Allegheny Ballet Company. He entered the School of American Ballet (SAB), the official school of New York City Ballet, full-time in the fall of 2001. In the fall of 2003, Mr. Angle became an apprentice with New York City Ballet. As an apprentice, he danced a featured role in Michel Fokine's Chopiniana, performed by SAB as part of New York City Ballet's winter 2004 season. Mr. Angle joined New York City Ballet as a member of the corps de ballet in June 2004. He was promoted to the rank of soloist in December 2007 and in October 2009 was promoted to principal dancer.

 

 

Davonna Batt: Originally from Albuquerque, New Mexico, Davonna fell in love with dance at an early age. She received a B.F.A. in Dance from the University of Arizona with Honors, Summa Cum Laude, and with great pleasure has immersed herself in several styles of dance as well as studied under many exceptional artists. Since moving to New York City in 2014, she has danced in and collaborated with several companies and artists including ALMA NYC, Gotham Dance Theater, Amanda + James, of bones dance, and ACB Dance. In addition, she's had the opportunity to tour nationally with DAMAGEDANCE andinternationally with Sarah Berges Dance. Along the way, Davonna discovered a love for teaching, and continues to find absolute joy in encouraging dancers, and movers of all ages to discover power, control, and expression in their bodies. Today, she continues to freelance with several admirable companies and individuals while finding new inspiration from dancers and teachers all over the world.

 

 

Sarah Schafer: Sarah Schafer, born and raised in Omaha, NE, began her training on scholarship at The School of Ballet Omaha with Robin Welch and Robert Vickrey. She later went on to train with such notable teachers as Jillana, Larry and Dolores Long, and Birute Barodicaite. Sarah began her  professional career as a dancer with Ballet Omaha at the age of 17. After moving to Chicago in 1996, she continued her career dancing in Ruth Page’s “Nutcracker”, and with companies such as Paul Abrahamson’s Moose Project, Luna Negra Dance Theater, The Civic Ballet of Chicago, and Alma Dance Company. Sarah has also danced for the Dallas Opera, Omaha Theater Ballet, and the Lyric Opera of Chicago. Having taught ballet for many years, Sarah became acertified Pilates instructor in 2004. Her teaching credits include Chicago Conservatory for the Performing Arts at Roosevelt University, Columbia College Chicago, Joffrey Academy of Dance, Lou Conte’s Dance Studio, The Ruth Page Foundation, Visceral Dance Studio, Dovetail Studios, Chicago Ballet Arts, and the Jillana School Summer Intensive in Taos, NM.

 

 

Constanza Murphy: Constanza trained at North Star Ballet in Fairbanks, AK before receiving her BFA in Ballet Performance at the University of Utah. Throughout her career, she has worked with a wide range of classical, contemporary, modern, and opera companies across the country. Recently her work has brought her to the San Francisco Bay Area to companies such as Oakland Ballet, Bay Pointe Ballet, Sacramento Ballet, Amy Seiwert's Imagery, and Peninsula Ballet Theatre. Notably, Constanza performed a variety of principal roles with Bay Pointe Ballet, including Tinkerbell, Sugarplum Fairy, and Lucy.
